Director of Engineering

Location: Shanghai, Suzhou or Shenzhen, China

Job Purpose:

A world leader in engineering services is currently seeking a Director of Engineering. The successful candidate will lead the company to become an advanced engineering company capable of delivering products and services using the industry best practices. The Director of Engineering (DOE) will establish tools and processes to provide new product development, sustaining engineering, and test services engineering. The DOE is expected to provide advanced technology forecast to the company and eventually to lead the company’s technology and engineering.
Duties:

 Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering department and for the company
 Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
 Direct, review, and approve product design and changes
 Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures
 Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities
 Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence
 Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates
 Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management

Skills:

 Excellent written and oral communicator in English and Chinese (Mandarin) skill is a big plus
 Ability to manage a large engineering department mainly in China with some best talents in US and Europe.
 Global business awareness
 Must understand Western and Chinese culture
 Strategic thinker both on technology and business
 Knowledge in advanced engineering tool
 Knowledge of current engineering best practices
 Current with latest technology developments
Qualifications:
 Experience – 10+ years engineering management, at least 3 years managing an engineering department in US or Europe
 Education – MSEE preferred, BSEE with the right engineering experience
 Culture – successful proof to work in both eastern and western environment
 Technology – leading role in at least one electronics industrial segment in US
 Product Development – successful performance of completed product engineering development management in US market
 Communication and team player – excellent international communication experiences and skills, successful history to work with multi national co-workers including Chinese under chaos and act fast.
 Be able to travel frequently between USA and China
